Do you want to know how to maintain ceramic coating? If you want to ensure that your car remains protected, the ceramic coating needs to be cleaned and looked after.

What Happens if Ceramic Coating isn't maintained?

A Ceramic coated car will give your vehicle a brilliant shine of high-quality. However, if the ceramic coatings are neglected, the protective layer will start to thin, and the beautiful shine will decrease and dull.

Reduced Hydrophobic Effect

If your car is allowed to soak up ultraviolet rays too often or don't wash it frequently, it will reduce the hydrophobic properties. It will prevent the mud, dirt, water spotting and other contaminants from gliding off the paintwork, which in turn will cause damage to your car's paintwork.

Eventually, Wear Out

If you fail to clean and wash your vehicle as recommended, you will notice a build-up of debris; this will cause the Ceramic Coating to wear out quicker and eventually lead to paint protection surface damage

Tips for maintaining Ceramic Coating

Step

Use the Two/three-Bucket Wash Method

The two-bucket method is when you use one bucket for soaking the wash mitt, and the second is used to clean the mitt after you have washed each section. The second bucket has grit guards and is filled with clean water. You rinse the wash mitt to remove any debris or dirt.

Step

Wash Your Car Fortnightly

Whether you use your car only at weekends or every day, it is highly recommended that your car is washed every two weeks. It will avoid contaminants from building up on your paintwork.

Step

Do Not Wash the Vehicle in Direct Sunlight

Make sure to when washing your car the area is shaded and not in direct sunlight. It is best practice to clean your paintwork when the sun is at the lowest level. It will help avoid streaking and water spots from appearing on your paintwork.

Step

Use a pH Neutral Car Shampoo

Using a PH neutral shampoo is ideal for the ceramic coating on your car. You should not use a shampoo that has added polish or wax. When you wash your car, always start from top to bottom and thoroughly rinse each part as you finish.

Step

Use Separate Wash Buckets / Mitts for lower areas and Wheels

Always use a separate car wash mitt for wheels and tyres. Tiny bits of metal, carbon deposits and brake dust will build up in the wheels, and the last thing you want is to clean the rest of your car with a contaminated wash mitt.

What you will need to maintain a ceramic coating on your car

One of the most fundamental ways to clean the ceramic coating on a car is the quality of the tools you will use.  You might have some of the listed items; however, you can make a difference with some small improvements.

For example, for best results, a drying towel of high-density and a microfibre wash mitt is ideal for reducing swirl marks.

  • Shampoo: pH Neutral
  • Wash Mitt: Lambswool or Microfibre
  • Drying Towels: Microfibre
  • Buckets: Ideally at least 2 with grit guards
  • Wheel Cleaning Brushes
  • Maintenance Spray
  • Tyre Dressing
  • Microfibre Cloths
